Wage: $54,100.80 - $69,638.40 (starting wage contingent upon experience)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, and on-call every 7 weeks
Job Summary
Under general direction, assists with performs general maintenance and repairs of plant
processing equipment and lift stations. Performs specialized construction, modifications and
installation of equipment and structures.
Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
High school diploma or G.E.D. and one year of related experience or training; or equivalent
combination of education and experience. Experience in equipment repair and maintenance or
related. Satisfactory driving record. Valid State of Iowa commercial drivers license instruction
permit upon first day in position. Valid State of Iowa Class A commercial drivers license with air
brake and tank endorsements within 6 months of hire. Forklift certification required within two
years of appointment. Meet federal drug testing requirements. Requires a pre-employment
drug screen. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Must live within 25
miles of the corporate limits of Iowa City, Iowa within one year of appointment to the position.

Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
Associates degree from an accredited educational institution; or two years of related
experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. State of Iowa DNR
Grade I Wastewater Operator certificate. Flagging training. Backflow prevention certification.
Confined space entry training.

Entry-level Driver Training (ELDT) for employees who need to obtain a required Commercial
Drivers License (CDL) is provided by the City. Employees are provided paid time to complete
ELDT and to take required CDL tests. Information on how to obtain an Iowa CDL including the
CDL manual and practice test are available on the Iowa Department of Transportation website.
