Job Summary
Position is open to individuals who are currently enrolled in a social work, planning, public
administration, social justice or communications program at an accredited university/college.
Under the direction of the Housing Authority Executive Director, the intern will gain hands-on
experience in affordable housing development, housing policy, public administration and
project management while supporting short-term and ongoing Iowa City Housing Authority
initiatives. The intern will assist with affordable housing research, planning, development, and
program implementation. Projects may include researching affordable housing financing and
funding opportunities; assisting with housing development, acquisition, rehabilitation, and
preservation initiatives; tracking project timelines, funding requirements, and deliverables;
collecting and analyzing housing and program data; and preparing reports, presentations, and
other materials for internal and external stakeholders. Performs other related project-based
duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
Enrollment as a student in a social work, planning, public administration, social justice or
communications program or a closely related field within an accredited university/college
required. Ability to communicate both written and orally to internal staff and the public
required. General understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Excel, PowerPoint and
Word required. Flexibility in day-to-day responsibilities. Must pass criminal background check.
