FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC
DEPARTMENT: Fire/EMS GRADE: F16
LOCATION: Fire Station & EMS Stations DATE: September 3, 2025
GENERAL PURPOSE
Protects life and property by engaging directly in firefighting,
emergency care, hazardous materials, and fire
prevention. Maintains fire/EMS equipment, apparatus, and facilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of the assigned Fire/EMS officer(s),
usually the deputy shift
commander or the shift commander. May also be subject to supervision by
other Fire/EMS officers and
senior personnel, including the Fire Chief, EMS Officer, and designated
personnel. Works within the
scope of the Incident Command System on emergency incidents.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This is generally a non-supervisory position; however, this position
will be expected to supervise EMTs,
and AEMTs in patient care settings during medical emergencies. This
position may be required to
coordinate, instruct, or supervise the work of new employees, as
assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- State of Kansas Paramedic Certification and or ability to obtain State
Certification within 30 days of hire.
- Must possess a valid drivers license or be able to obtain a Class B
hire. Must have a clear MVR.
Desired Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Paramedicine, Fire Science, or a related field.
- IFSAC or Pro-Board Accredited Hazardous Materials Operations
- IFSAC or Pro-Board Accredited Firefighter II certification.
- IFSAC or Pro-Board Driver/Operator: Pumper certification .
- Any of the following certifications: PHTLS, PALS, ACLS, ITLS
- Two or more years experience as a firefighter on a career or volunteer
