Intern (Marion County Coroner)

The Intern within the Coroner’s office will shadow Deputy Coroner’s when going to a death scene. The Intern will be responsible for answering incoming phone calls and interacting with families. This position will maintain databases, review documents, and scheduling appointments for decedents property.

The purpose and mission of the Marion County Coroner’s agency is to investigate and determine a person’s cause and manner of death, particularly in cases when the individual died under unusual circumstances. The office consoles families, advocates for the deceased, and gives information to police and courts to prosecute suspected criminals. • Provides preliminary data and information from death investigations.
• Ensures that the total work produce meets all appropriate scientific, legal and accreditation requirements,
• Maintains a variety of records, databases, and logbooks pertaining to autopsy records, deaths, disposal permits, autopsy quality assurance data and investigative data.
• Reviews and documents decedent personal property.
• Works with the families in scheduling appointments and releasing of property to the legal next of kin.
• Enters and maintains system documentation of all work performed ensuring accuracy and completeness for death investigations.
• Assist or performs procedures for identification of decedent records.
• Writes and creates documents such as reports, memos, presentations, and spreadsheets.
• Provides clerical support in meetings through effective note taking or recording meeting minutes.
• Conducts effective research.

Graduate or Undergraduate student with a minimum of one year of college education.  Ability to work at least 20 hours per week.
