The Water Maintenance Worker will perform minor maintenance to include trimming around fire hydrants, painting, organizing and assisting with other minor maintenance as assigned. This position also includes emergency repair work as needed. This employee should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and effective communication, organizational, and public relation skills.
This is an entry-level, part-time (no more than 30 hours per week), temporary position.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
- Maintains safe drinking water for the citizens of Hutchinson and for fire protection;
- Maintains and repairs the water distribution system;
- Assists with renewing and installing City water service and water main lines;
- Checks for water leaks;
- Operates department equipment and vehicles;
- Maintains safety on the job;
- Fields questions, concerns, and complaints from the general public;
- Inspects and maintains department vehicles and equipment;
- Flushes and inspects fire hydrants on a regularly scheduled basis;
- Repairs street and driveway cuts, brick, asphalt, and concrete;
- Performs all other duties as deemed necessary and assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- EDUCATION: A high school diploma or GED is required.
- EXPERIENCE: One to three years of similar or related experience is preferred. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within six months of employment.
- CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSE: This employee must possess a valid Kansas Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
