Under the supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker (Golf) performs duties associated with maintaining turf, irrigation systems and maintenance equipment within the City's golf course division. The work involves operation of and preventive maintenance work on a variety of turf maintenance equipment. Employees act on their own initiative to eliminate defects when deficiencies are discovered. The position is a non-exempt position under FLSA
A Day in the Life:
- Participate in the maintenance program for natural turf areas, irrigation systems, pest management programs and special projects related to the construction, renovation, and repair of turf areas.
- Participate in a variety of plant maintenance and landscape duties including trimming shrubs, pulling weeds, watering plants and mulching.
- Perform mowing duties in all areas of the golf course division including closely mown areas such as greens, approaches, tees and fairways, as well as taller areas like banks, lawns, roughs and natural areas.
- Hand waters turf as required.
- Assists with installation, troubleshooting and repair of water lines, valves and irrigation heads for the golf course irrigation system.
- Assist with golf course projects such as aerification, topdressing, seeding, sodding, edging, weed removal, painting, blowing, sweeping, etc.
- Operates and maintains maintenance equipment such as utility carts, bunker rakes, aerifiers, blowers, etc.
- Performs minor maintenance tasks on motorized equipment such as cleaning, greasing, sharpening blades, and making tire repairs. Will assist with cutting unit adjustments, oil changes, replacing hydraulic hoses and changing other parts as needed.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
What You Will Need to be Successful:
- EDUCATION: A high school diploma or GED is required,
- EXPERIENCE: This is an entry-level position, so no previous experience is required. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within one year of employment. Some knowledge of the game of golf is helpful but not required.
- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Employee must have a valid Kansas Driver's License. A commercial driver's license (CDL) is preferred, but not required.
