This is a Non-Permanent, Part-Time Position
The current vacancy is in the Community and Library Services Department - Beach Operations - Parking & Camping Division.
The ideal candidate possesses effective communication and cooperative interpersonal skills, excellent customer service skills, is physically fit enough to stand or walk for the entirety of a shift, and has the ability to work well in a busy environment where attention to detail is important. The incumbent may work shifts as early as 5:00 AM and as late as 12:30 AM.
Note: This recruitment will close when the hiring manager determines that enough qualified applications have been received.
Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 – June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Annuitants.

Read and interpret maps and other pertinent documentation
Assess situations while remaining calm and using sound judgement
Learn and apply terminology and procedures used in parking enforcement
Use of a Citation Writer and cellular phone
Communicate effectively with employees, the general public and outside authorities
Work weekends, and holidays as scheduled
Work as early as 5:00 a.m. and as late as 12:30 a.m.
Provide quality customer service
Walk and stand for extended periods of time
Operate a vehicle in a safe manner to travel within various locations of the City

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Employees regularly assigned/required to drive a city or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program due to the performance of field duties that may require operation of a City vehicle.
Public Employee Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, all Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or disaster.

Requires ability to drive a motor vehicle and entering and exiting vehicle several times a day. May require moving tools and equipment weighing 25 pounds or less. May require ascending and descending ladders/scaffolding and stairs.
The SALARY RANGE is composed of seven steps. Merit step increases are based on satisfactory performance.
PROMOTIONS within the City are based upon the merit system principles emphasizing individual ability and utilizing competitive examinations.

- Enforces meter and off-street parking lot parking regulations as outlined in the Huntington Beach Municipal Code (HBMC) and California Vehicle Code (CVC)
- Provides enforcement services to coastal Huntington Beach in the off-street parking facilities and the on-street paid parking areas (meters) on a rotational basis
- Issues citations using a Citation Writer and cellular phone to vehicles not adhering to meter and off-street parking lot parking regulations in addition to other parking violations within the coastal downtown area as outlined in the HBMC and CVC
- Answers questions from the public and performs some light maintenance
- Guides the public on use of paid parking equipment
- Works closely with Parking & Camping administrators to resolve permitting issues
- Communicates maintenance issues to appropriate division
- Assists with parking lot and lane closures during busy times and special events
- Maintains daily records of activities, including number of citations issued
- Reports to work as scheduled; maintains a regular and consistent attendance record
- Performs related duties as assigned
