DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Safely and efficiently operates heavy equipment to perform a series of manual activities and tasks to transport materials, personnel, and supplies to complete work assignments. Operates heavy equipment such as (Dump Truck, 5/10 Ton Roller, Asphalt Distributor Truck, Concrete Mixer Truck, Concrete Saw, Flusher (with tanker endorsement, F.E. Loader, Herb, Spray Truck, Lowboy, Pothole Patcher, Slope Mower, Bulldozer, Sweeper, and Bucket Truck) to transport equipment and/or materials to and from work sites. Performs a variety of manual tasks and activities. i.e. spraving. lawn care. moving furniture, roofing, painting, digging manholes, mowing, pouring concrete or asphalt, etc. Maintains, cleans and services equipment, vehicles tools and facilities. Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials, and eguipment. Observes and follows safety procedures and precautions the work site. May investigate and respond to complaints. Prepares and maintains reports, forms, and records. May act as lead of a crew and coordinate and monitor work assignments and personnel
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires stooping, bending, and/or lifting of items of 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma, GED, or the ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions at a level necessary for successful job performance supplemented by specialized courses or training in the operation of the construction equipment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of experience performing manual and field work with power tools or equipment are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving. May be required to have a valid Class A or B Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) based on the type of equipment the position is assigned to operate.
Preference will be given to candidates with High School Diploma or GED.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED None
Department may administer skills assessment test.

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range is:
