What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Crossing Guard position at City of Hopewell?
Provides protective services to schoolchildren crossing streets at intersections.
- Stops traffic.
- Assists children in crossing streets by leading them.
- Communicates with police department members on a portable radio.
- Reports any accidents or traffic problems at intersections.
- Fills in for other crossing guards during course of year.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Ability to read and write and minimal experience required (less than 6 months). High school or GED preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- VA driver’s license
- Knowledge of portable radio and police codes
- Communication and customer service skills
- Ability to deal with all levels of the general public
Work Environment:
- Worker is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, and dust and to potentially dangerous conditions or people.
Essential Physical Activities:
- Stooping, walking, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.
