What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Program Leader position at City of Hopewell?
- Plans, coordinates, and facilitates a variety of recreation programs at the Hopewell Community Center and throughout the city; assists with special events as assigned; assists with patron monitoring and support at the Hopewell Community Center
- Coordinates use of space in the Hopewell Community Center; assists with setup and break down for programs and classes; performs basic facility maintenance to assist with facility cleanliness
- Prepares reports for the Recreation Programs Manager regarding program quality, supplies, attendance, and other necessary data points
- Works with outside vendors for the delivery of specialty programs at the Hopewell Community Center; assists with scheduling outside vendors; coordinates supply and equipment needs
- Acts as lead staff member of the recreation programs team
- Assists the Recreation Programs Manager and Recreation Supervisors with other programs as required
Minimum Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED and at least one year experience working with youth programs, special events, or other recreation program areas;
- Associate degree or other higher education experience in related field preferred
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- Valid VA driver’s license
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification must be obtained within six months
Knowledge:
- General knowledge of recreation programs, community center activities, and youth programs
Skills:
- Customer service and oral communication skills
- Basic organization skills
Abilities:
- Ability to perform physically strenuous sports activities with participants
- Ability to work in a variety of settings, including gyms and outdoor areas
- Ability to work with the general public
- Ability to work with specific age groups such as ages 3-17, 18-49 and 50

- Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing -up close, seeing far away, kneeling, pushing, talking, standing, fingering, repetitive motions
