What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Supervisor (Right-of-Way) position at City of Hopewell?
- Plans, directs, reviews and participates in the work of staff in an assigned division to ensure proper completion of work projects.
- Maintains job tickets, completes logbooks or other records, and prepares reports for management.
- Assists with purchasing the assigned unit’s needed materials and supplies, maintains stock and inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of division personnel; coaches, counsels, disciplines, and evaluates the work of personnel; completes personnel-related forms such as time sheets and addresses personnel-related issues such as time-off and discipline.
- Schedules and Participates in assigned crew work; explains work projects or orders to crew personnel, manages work load and completion of work to ensure quality completion.
- Responds to inquiries, questions, or complaints.
- Work with and assists other crews as needed or assigned
- May be required to work outside normal work hours in on-call and emergency situations.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in general construction, maintenance, and/or grounds keeping work including supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- May require possession of or ability to obtain specific licenses and/or certifications depending on departmental assignment.
- Obtain Commercial Class-B driver’s license within six months of hire.
- Obtain CPR, AED, Work zone Traffic Control, and VDOT Flagger certifications within six months of hire.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in assigned skilled or trades unit
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions associated with type of work assigned
Skills:
- Organization, time and materials estimate skills, team-leadership and interpersonal skills
- Manual skills required for assigned area of responsibility
Abilities:
- Ability to operate hand, power or automotive equipment used in assigned unit
- Ability to perform labor outdoors for long periods of time
Work Environment:
- Worker is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, odors, heights, dust, fumes and hazardous materials such as petroleum products, paint, solvents, asphalt, concrete, herbicides and pesticides.
Essential Physical Activities:
- Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.
