Hiring Range: $102,148.80-$136,905.60
Starting salary may be adjusted depending on experience.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, or related field AND ten (10) years or more of experience planning and coordinating building inspection operations and services.
OR
High School Diploma or equivalent G.E.D. AND fifteen (15) years or more of experience planning and coordinating building inspection operations and services;
2. Two (2) years or more of management and supervisory experience;
3. Possession of an International Code Council (ICC) Building Official certification;
4. Current and valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and/or maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit.
Responsibilities
- Directs, plans, and coordinates all building inspection operations and services;
- Establishes operational goals and coordinates staff to meet goals; evaluates and revises as necessary for optimum efficiency;
- Coordinates large projects with developers, community, and various city departments; resolves community issues and work-related problems;
- Provides advice, technical information, and instruction concerning new policies and procedures and new products to staff members and the general public;
- Communicates action plans and budget to Mayor and City Council, providing necessary information when requested;
- Plans and directs a comprehensive building inspection and codes enforcement program including all phases of building construction;
- Coordinates with various city departments regarding current and future technological development needs and implementation of training for developments;
- Plans and implements new policies and procedures for the department;
- Provides supervision and leadership to staff, giving direction, guidelines, and technical assistance in order to ensure consistent enforcement of codes and ordinances;
- Analyzes department personnel requirements, develops appropriate training activities, determines requirements for successfully trained personnel, and evaluates performance;
- Develops and implements software-based solutions to enhance departmental function and efficiency;
- Develops annual planning for short and long term department goals and objectives;
- Develops annual budget for the department; approves and controls expenditures;
- Reviews and analyzes proposed code changes; compiles and analyzes reports of actual vs. proposed Inspection Services Department activities;
- Prepares FEMA and ISO reports and maintains standards within the department to ensure high standards ratings for the community;
- Attends City Council and Zoning meetings;
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;
- Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
