What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Accountant position at City of Homewood?
The City of Homewood is seeking to hire a Chief Accountant to oversee the daily financial operations of the city to ensure work is completed in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and guidelines, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines. Employees in this role establish and maintain financial operating systems, policies, procedures, and other internal controls to ensure funds are properly expended. Chief Accountants oversee the maintenance of financial accounts and records, the preparation of financial reports, the reconciling of accounts, processing of accounts receivable and payable, and participating in department audits. Employees also participate in the development and monitoring of the annual department budget. Chief Accountants supervise subordinate staff for the purpose of assigning work, monitoring performance, providing feedback, and training personnel.

The pay range for this job is: $89,606 - $139,006
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Option A:
•Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
•Experience performing and/or reviewing financial documents (e.g., audited financial statements), revenue, and the budget.
•Experience directly supervising employees performing financial work (e.g., verifying financial data for accuracy) or supervising employees who supervise others.
Option B:
•Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
•Experience as a Principal Accountant in the Merit System.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
