The Position
Under the general direction of the Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts or his designee, this employee manages the operation of the Division of Park Maintenance. This employee performs administrative and supervisory work in directing the operations of the Park Maintenance Division. The employee in this class is responsible for the planning, organizing, direction and control of maintenance functions to park and recreation facilities. Duties require the development of objectives, policies and procedures, determination of budget needs and the assignment of departmental resources to meet desired goals and objectives. Supervision and direction is received from the Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts who will hold the incumbent responsible for the attainment of desired administrative and operational goals and objectives.
Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field, extensive experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of structures and equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must obtain certification as a Playground Inspector within 12 months of appointment to position.
Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

Your name will remain on a register for one year for open competitive examinations and two years for closed competitive except where labor contract conflicts.
Your name may be removed from an eligibility list prior to one year according to Hollywood's Civil Service Ordinance or labor contracts. Your eligibility may be canceled if you refuse a position or if you are not available for work. You are responsible for notifying the Employment Office, in writing, of any change in your address or telephone number.

- Establishes and evaluates the effectiveness of preventive maintenance programs relating to Parks and Recreation Facilities, especially Community Centers, Park Playgrounds and City Sports Facilities.
- Communicates and coordinates with appropriate Departments and Divisions when repairs or improvements to Parks and Recreation facilities are contemplated, planned or developed.
- Assists in the development of plans for Capital Improvement projects associated with Parks and Recreation facilities.
- Develops Park Maintenance Division objectives, policies and procedures, and prepares and administers the Division's annual budget.
- Recommends the purchase of materials and equipment needed and the allocation of resources for the Division to function properly.
- Maintains appropriate inventory records and files required reports via the Director of PRCA.
- Works with other Department staff to write appropriate grant proposals, develop internship opportunities and conducts special projects and studies as assigned.
- Inspects parks and recreation facilities frequently to insure public safety and identify possible hazards and repair needs. Personally repairs facilities and equipmant or initiates work orders for repairs through the Public Works Department.
- Prioritizes and tracks all submitted work orders to insure their timely completion. Follows-up with Public Works on all work orders as necessary.
- Reviews construction plans pertaining to the development or renovation of parks and recreation facilities.
- Develops specifications and solicits bids or quotes for facility repairs, renovations or construction of Parks and Recreation facilities as appropriate or required. Coordinates and oversees work by contractors.
- Reviews DCM project specifications for facility repairs, renovations or construction of Parks and Recreation facilities and makes recommendations for changes to the Director or Assistant Director of PRCA.
- Attends community and civic association meetings as requested.
- Performs related work as required.
