Shift Work Required

Please note you will be assigned the following shift:

Tuesday - Thursday from 3 PM to 11 PM & Saturday 9 AM - 5 PM

Job Summary

This is unskilled and limited semi-skilled work in the cleaning and maintenance of municipal property. Employees in this class utilize a variety of common and specialized equipment to perform routine manual work. Performs any combination of tasks described below in accordance with established procedures and subject to inspection for adherence to required standards of cleanliness and compliance with instructions. Assignments and work methods are outlined in detail and work may be subject to close supervision.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

  • Operates small machinery; pressure washer, gas blower, pole cutter and street sweeper within the garage decks and surface lots.
  • Assists Meter Technicians with installation/removal of parking meters.
  • Assists with light mechanical repairs and maintenance of garage gate revenue equipment.
  • Repair and/or replace damaged gate arms.
  • Minor diagnostic repair and/or replace parking related revenue equipment.
  • Assist with traffic control within parking garages and entrances, exits and driveways.
  • Performs minor repairs to equipment and buildings.
  • Light painting and painting touch-up as well as assisting in the covering/removal of graffiti on garage decks and common areas of the garages.
  • Lifts, positions and removes barricades in order to open or close parking areas.
  • Washes and polishes windows; maintains common office areas, restrooms; maintains levels of common supplies.
  • Receives office and meter related supplies from UPS, FedEx, etc.; assists with recycling of metals and waste paper.
  • Set-up furniture, equipment, barricades, cones and signs at the garages for meetings, special events, movie shoots and special functions.
  • Conducts a daily visual inspection of elevators for vandalism or other signs of damage or need for repair.
  • Monitors the condition of garage lighting and reports on outages of parking deck and roof lights.
  • Lubricates stairwell and office door hinges and panic bars and door latches, reports any repairs or adjustments required to stairwell doors or railings.
  • Lift and position bag goods in the installation of parking related devices.
  • Visually inspects garage decks for broken or chipped concrete, cracked or falling plaster, loose or missing expansion joints and other possible tripping hazards.
  • Adjusts heat and ventilating controls, maintains and cleans city appliances located in the common areas.
  • Understands how to use the pay stations and master meters, provides customer service to patrons.
  • Performs general custodial duties, including picking up litter on the exterior grounds of garage decks, as well as sweeping or blowing of walkways, common garage areas and surface lots and emptying waste cans and ash trays.
  • Must effectively and positively represent the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation.
  • Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers.
  • Performs related work as required for this position description only.

Required

The Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent plus one (1) year mechanical or building repair or maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination or training and experience. Possession of a State of Florida Driver’s License.

Preferred

Three (3) years of mechanical or building repair or maintenance experience.

Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Driver’s License: With proof of automobile insurance
  • Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
  • Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record

WORK SCHEDULE: The assigned work days and hours for this position will vary to include nights, weekends and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the work and of necessary safety precautions.
  • Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks, work is physically demanding and employee must be able to safely lift at least 50lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally be exposed to adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and simple written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers and the public.
  • High level of professionalism in customer service, and communication skills.

Work Environment

Work involves moderate to heavy physical activity in a primarily outdoor setting under all types of weather conditions with the added exposure to insects, animals and other hazards.
