Description

General Description

Semi-skilled manual work in the maintaining and repairing streets sidewalks storm drains catch basins and swale areas. This is an essential emergency operations position.

Essential Job Functions

1. Removes broken and cracked concrete. Forms; grades; pours and finishes concretes; strips forms.

2. Cuts and removes damaged asphalt. Levels ground with rock and replaces with hot asphalt; and rolls it with loader.

3. Grades shell rock roads using loader box blade.

4. Repairs roads and right-of-ways and operates mowing equipment.

5. Operates jet rodder in cleaning various clogged lines.

6. Repairs; maintains and constructs storm drains using power tools and equipment.

7. Cleans up canals. Cuts and re-sods swale areas.

8. Operates safety equipment (flagging; set cones; etc.)

9. Performs manual labor (shoveling; digging; sweeping; etc.)

10. Loads and unloads materials.

11. Maintains and services equipment.

12. Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • One (1) year construction or maintenance experience.

(A comparable amount of training; education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

LICENSES; CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS

Preference may be given to applicants with a valid Class “B” Commercial FL Driver’s license; or the ability to obtain license within 6 months from date of hire.


Knowledge; Skills; & Abilities

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to construction work.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of operating construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of concrete and asphalt construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of storm drainage maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to calculate and measure to determine material needed.
  • Ability to maintain tools and equipment.
  • Skill in the use of common hand tools and power driven equipment.
  • Skill in the operation of mid-size equipment (tractors; roller; dump trucks; skid loader; etc.).
  • Ability to operate a bucket truck and backhoe
