Position Overview & Key Responsibilities

The Teen Program Instructor supports Hidden Creek Community Center's Ohana Teen Night program, held Fridays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This role plans and leads recreational activities, builds positive relationships with participants, and helps create an inclusive environment where teens feel safe, respected, and engaged. The program operates during the school year, beginning September 11, 2026 and continuing through May 15, 2027. This is a hands-on, community-centered role where your presence directly shapes a positive weekly experience for local teens.

What You'll Be Doing:

Behavior & Facility Support: Monitor program areas to maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere while creating a welcoming environment that reflects the diversity of our community. Follow established safety procedures and respond appropriately to incidents and concerns.

Examples of Essential Work:

• Facilitate weekly Ohana Teen Night programming serving approximately 70–90 teens each Friday.
• Support rotating activity offerings that include arts, recreation, fitness, leadership, and community engagement opportunities.
• Help create teen-driven programming by encouraging participant input and leadership.
• Support and develop the Teen Leader Program by creating opportunities for youth leadership and peer engagement.
• Participate in ongoing staff training focused on youth development, safety practices, behavior management, and best practices for working with teens.

• Experience working with youth or teens in recreational, educational, community, or similar settings.
• Ability to lead activities and keep participants engaged.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Sound judgment and the ability to respond calmly to challenging situations.
• Commitment to creating inclusive and welcoming environments.
• Reliability and ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
• Positive attitude, flexibility, and enthusiasm for youth development.
• Ability to model respectful and appropriate behavior for participants.
• Must be out of high school at the time of hire. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Instructor II

Acceptable Experience & Training

• High School Diploma or GED; and
• Some related work experience; or
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
• Ability to attend work on a regular, predictable basis as scheduled.

Additional Information

Work Environment & Schedule

• Ohana Teen Night operates every Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
• Program season runs from September 11, 2026 through May 15, 2027.
• Selected candidates must be available to begin employment and attend required training on August 31, 2026.
• Participation in quarterly staff meetings and ongoing required trainings is expected.
• Position involves active participation in recreational activities and interaction with large groups of teens, typically serving 70–90 participants each Friday.
• Staff support youth leadership opportunities through the Teen Leader Program.
• Positions working with youth are subject to pre-employment drug screening consistent with City policy.

Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, ASL, or any other language spoken by over 10% of the City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, will receive a monthly 3% premium pay. The incentive is only paid on hours in paid status. Proficiency will be determined by a City-administered test.
