Hillsboro Public Library is seeking two full-time Library Support Specialists to join our public service team. Whether you're helping community members discover their next favorite book, navigating technology questions, supporting lifelong learning, or creating memorable experiences for children and families, you'll play an important role in making the library an inviting place for everyone.

We are currently filling two full-time positions at Hillsboro Public Library and will also use this recruitment to establish an eligibility list to fill future full-time, part-time (20 hours), limited duration, and flexibly staffed vacancies. This eligibility list will remain active for a period of nine (9) months from the closing date of this posting or until the list is exhausted, whichever occurs first.

Library Support Specialist

Customer Service | Technology Support | Community Connections

Anticipated Work Schedule: Saturday - Wednesday, 9:15 am – 6:15 pm

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting people with information, resources, and library services and making the library a welcoming and accessible place for everyone. You'll work throughout the library welcoming patrons of all ages, helping them discover what they're looking for, supporting technology needs, and contributing to library services throughout the building.

What You'll Spend Time Doing

  • Assisting patrons with library accounts, checkouts, and locating materials
  • Helping customers access digital resources, online services, and library technology
  • Staffing multiple public service areas throughout the library
  • Providing notary services (training provided)
  • Collaborating with coworkers to create welcoming spaces and deliver excellent customer service
  • Contributing to a variety of daily library services and operations


Library Support Specialist

Youth Services & Programs

Storytime | Literacy | Family Engagement

Anticipated Work Schedule: Tuesday – Wednesday – 9:00 -6:00 pm, Thursday – 11:15 – 8:15 pm, Friday – Saturday – 9:15 – 6:15 pm

This role combines outstanding customer service with youth-focused and programming support . You'll help create meaningful experiences that inspire curiosity, encourage lifelong learning, and support children and families throughout our community.

Regardless of assignment, every Library Support Specialist plays an important role in connecting community members with library resources, services, and opportunities for lifelong learning.
Depending on assignment, responsibilities may include:

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • High School Diploma or GED; and
  • Three years of customer service experience, including at least one year in a library setting; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position.

Licenses/Certifications

Depending on assignment, some positions may require:
  • Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
  • Positions assigned to the Connect work area must obtain and maintain a State of Oregon Notary Public Commission within six months of hire.

Additional Information

Bilingual incentive pay available
Preference may be given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish/English.

Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, or any language spoken by over ten percent (10%) of City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, at a proficiency level determined by a fluency test administered by the City, will receive a monthly premium of three percent (3%) of their regular base pay.
