Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Transit Coordinator and Ravinia Foreman.
Education: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is required. Strong written and oral communication skills and basic math proficiency are essential.
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience operating buses or working in transit systems is required. Ability to interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner is essential.
Valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B Passenger endorsement and air brake qualification Five-year safe driving history documented through an Illinois DMV court purposes abstract or equivalent Must meet and maintain all DOT physical requirements, including drug and alcohol screening Employment is contingent upon PACE approval to operate transit vehicles
Operate a transit bus safely using defensive driving techniques Adhere to scheduled routes and timelines while adapting to changing conditions Use mobile radio for communication and coordination with dispatch Complete required documentation and reports accurately Operate the wheelchair ramp and secure passengers according to safety procedures Maintain vehicle cleanliness and respond professionally to detours, accidents, or emergencies
