- Trains, assigns, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
- Â Completes daily work orders.
- Prepares parks for tournaments and special events.
- Inspects playground equipment; completes annual audits of playground equipment.
- Operates tractors, zero-turn mowers, and various hand tools.Â
- Maintains buildings and facilities; cleans restrooms, mops, sweeps, cleans windows, empties trash, removes litter and changes light bulbs. Â Â
- Repairs buildings and facilities; designs, fabricates, and installs features for special projects.Â
- Trims shrubs and maintains landscape material.
- Pesticide applications.Â
- Snow removal.
- Leaf removal.
- Grass mowing.Â
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the standards, materials, techniques, and equipment used to maintain and repair parks, recreation buildings, and facilities. •Â
- Understanding playground equipment installation.
- Familiarity with departmental and city policies, procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in operating equipment such as backhoes and tractors.
- Â Competence in basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
- Â Ability to supervise personnel.
- Â Proficiency in both oral and written communication.
- Knowledge of lawn and landscape maintenance.
- Familiarity with pesticide application.Â
- Understanding of arboriculture practices.
- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Skill in the operation of such equipment as backhoes and tractors.
- Skill in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation, repair, and maintenance duties.
- Skill in the supervision of personnel.
- Skill in oral and written communication.

- Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with high school or equivalent completion.
- Ability to be on a rotating on-call schedule.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
