SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Development Services Director, performs a variety of routine and complex technical work to ensure that the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Existing Building Code and other related codes and standards are met. Reviews building plans and specifications and inspects buildings and structures in all stages of construction, alteration and repair. Enforces codes and ordinances regulating zoning, land use, signs and property maintenance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Reviews construction plans checking for compliance with applicable building-related codes, issues building permits after code compliance has been determined.
- Performs on-site inspections of construction including inspection of footings, foundations, framing, mechanical systems, completed buildings and land use developments; enters results and time of inspections into computer tracking system.
- Investigates complaints and violations of building related codes, zoning codes, property maintenance codes; issues notices and orders; assists with prosecution of violations as necessary.
- Researches problems and complaints regarding buildings, building construction and code compliance. Responds to complex and sensitive building issues.
- Resolves complex and sensitive customer service issues, either personally, by telephone or in writing. Maintains records and documents customer service issues and resolutions.
- Interacts with the public and explains technical information to both technically and non-technically trained individuals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate of Applied Science degree in construction technology or a related field. Training, education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school plus four years' experience in general construction experience or related field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State Driver's License.
- Must obtain one or more ICC Building Inspector certifications within six months of employment.
- Must obtain NPDES Stormwater training – CSI for construction & development and municipal personnel within one year of employment.

HOURS
40 hours per week; typical schedule is Monday thru Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
