General Definition of Work

The Aquatics Coordinator oversees the planning, operations, programming, and staff management of the community center pool and outdoor aquatics center. This position ensures safe, inclusive, and engaging aquatic experiences while managing programs, budgets, regulatory compliance, and community partnerships.

Must be available on weeknights, weekends, and holidays as job duties demand.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation.

Supervision exercised over assigned staff.

Essential Functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.   • Plans, develops, implements and supervises aquatics programs, events and staff; schedules the use of facilities for programs and ensures their safe usage; ensures adequate supervision and oversight of programs; orders equipment, supplies, and other items for programs.
  • Select, train, schedule, motivate and evaluate assigned facility staff; provide or coordinate staff training to include Customer Service, CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding, Pool Operation and BBP, evaluate employee performance. Maintains high visibility and remains accessible to the public. Ensure deadlines are met. Supervises daily operations.
  • Greets visitors; answers telephone and emails; receives inquiries, complaints, and service requests and resolves them within the framework of established policies and procedures or forwards them to the appropriate party for disposition; assists participants with the completion of standardized forms or documents; maintains records and files.
  • Responsible for swim lessons, lifeguard in-services, developing and enforcing operational policies, safety procedures, and facility rules in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitors the day-to-day operations of aquatic facilities, programs and events, including making site visits, handling and resolving complaints, and ensuring that programs and events have required staff, materials and supplies.
  • Inspect aquatic facilities for needed maintenance and repairs and daily activity within the facility: notify maintenance of repairs needed within the facilities. Oversee the care and maintenance of the physical assets and facilities/grounds of the assigned facilities.
  • Maintain written and electronic accounting records for chemical inventories, and chemical readings.
  • Promotes all aquatic programming, including oversight of the registration process using RecTrac; sends direct e-mail with program information to current and past program participants.
  • Assists in preparing and developing program budgets.
  • Must be courteous and helpful to customers, staff, and the public. Follow city and department policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School or GED and one to three years of experience with customer service and program development in a recreation environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications

  • Current Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain in 3 months of hire).
  • Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) Certification
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification. (or ability to obtain in 3 months of hire).
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. (or ability to obtain in 3 months of hire).
  • Must possess and maintain a drivers license.

Starting pay $21.26 per hour, up to $34.01 per hour, plus a generous benefit package.
