Position Summary:
The Wastewater Collection, Maintenance & Repair Technician is skilled in the installation, maintenance, and repair of collections systems, lift stations, fixtures, equipment, and machinery and lift station structures. Perform a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of waterworks sewer collection system, left stations, equipment, vehicles, and fixtures. Incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment for all assignments received and take initiative with reasonable guidance from supervisor in determining the necessary repairs and/or adjustments. Work is conducted under immediate supervision and evaluated through observation and efficiency of duties performed.
Essential Job Requirements
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED required
Ability to obtain a Collection or Wastewater “D” License
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have experience in wastewater treatment plant operation and mechanical repair work. • Some Journeyman skills preferred-plumbing, electrical, etc.
- Some basic computer skills
- Experience in using basic hand tools and some large equipment
- Working knowledge of the common practices, tools, methods, and techniques used in the mechanical trades.
- Working knowledge of the functions of wastewater treatment plant equipment.
- Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with wastewater plant activities and chemicals.
- Working knowledge to detect and take appropriate action in the operation of water treatment equipment chemical feeds machines and other related equipment.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Basic knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment associated with the welding and mechanical trade.
- General knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Some knowledge of the principles and methods of inventory control and record keeping material used on assisting welding and mechanical tasks.
- Skill in the use and care of various hand and power tools associated with water and sewer line maintenance and repair.
- Ability to perform tasks of various depths and in confined spaces.
- Ability to understand and follow oral instruction and to interpret simple plans and sketches.
- Ability to understand and communicate policies, procedures, and services of the HWWS in order to make decisions in accordance with the fore mentioned and maintain accurate reports.
- Ability to drive a company vehicle (valid TX Driver’s license with a good driving record).
- Must have valid TX CDL license with tanker endorsements, or ability to obtain within three months.
