Are you an experienced real estate professional with a passion for commercial property valuation? The City of Hampton’s Assessor’s Office is seeking a Commercial Appraiser to join our team and lead the valuation of commercial real estate across the city.

As a Commercial Appraiser, you will perform complex real estate appraisals on land and/or commercial, multi-family and industrial/warehouse buildings. Serve as a lead appraiser and provide assistance to less experienced appraisers. The class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Associate's degree in Real Estate, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience appraising real estate and/or assessment experience required.
- Successful completion of three (3) basic pre-license courses in real estate appraising from a recognized appraisal organization such as Appraisal Institute (AI), International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), or American Society of Appraisers (ASA).
- Virginia appraiser license preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Requires frequent local travel.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
