This is skilled work in the operation and maintenance of heavy and complex automotive equipment such as backhoes, skid steers, directional drill and front end loaders.This position is responsible for the general maintenance of assigned equipment. The work is performed under general direction and supervision of the Utilities Crew Leader but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision may be exercised over the work of assigned personnel in the performance of manual labor and related tasks.

- Operates loaders, backhoe, directional drill and skid steers on construction and maintenance projects throughout the City;
- Services equipment and makes minor field repairs and adjustments;
- Reports the need for major repairs to equipment as necessary;
- Acts as crew leader if the assigned crew leader is required to leave the job site for any reason and personally participates in the manual work of assigned crews if needed;
- Performs related work as required.
- Considerable knowledge of the operating and maintenance requirements and characteristics of equipment similar to that of assignment;
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational and safety precautions applicable to assigned equipment;
- Ability to perform manual tasks;
- Ability to direct and supervise the work of others;
- Ability to perform work with speed, accuracy and attention to detail;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and supervisory personnel;
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Ability to communicate well with others, both orally and in writing.
- Graduation from High School or possession of a G.E.D.; and
- Six (6) months experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy automotive equipment; and
- Possession of a current, valid Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Training in the operation and maintenance of heavy automotive equipment.
Salary : $63,648 - $70,200
