This is skilled work installing, operating and maintaining natural gas system pressure/flow regulation equipment. This includes supervisory and skilled labor in installation, maintenance, adjustment, inspection and testing of gate stations, regulator stations and relief sites. Regulator Technician is responsible for proper odorization of natural gas at City gate stations and installation, operation and maintenance of all odorization equipment, including monitoring and adjusting odorant concentrations. This position is also responsible for operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the City Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling station.This is skilled work installing, operating and maintaining natural gas system pressure/flow regulation equipment. Essential Job Functions

  • Supervise crews/contractors in installation, operation, maintenance and adjustment of regulators according to Department of Tra
  • Supervise crews/contractors in installation, operation, maintenance and adjustment of regulators according to Department of Transportation (DOT) procedures and requirements.
  • Troubleshoot various natural gas system related service calls and promptly, effectively and safely resolve service issues.
  • Compile and maintain work and inspection records; compile and maintain various required records and reports.
  • Install, operate, maintain and replace natural gas regulators and relief valves.
  • Install, operate, maintain and replace natural gas odorization equipment.
  • Operate and maintain natural gas fired boilers.
  • Operate and maintain the City CNG filling station.
  • Coordinate regulator and relief valve sizing and new regulator station design with Utility Engineering Department.
  • Plan, coordinate and complete all required tasks of rebuilding/installing new regulator/relief stations.
  • Performs related work as required.

Skills/Knowledges/Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical operation of regulators and all associated equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of operation of all regulator stations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and construction plans/drawings.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance materials, tools, and equipment applicable to the required work.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of pressure and temperature effects on natural gas volumes.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of City natural gas system piping/pressure layout.
  • Ability to meet/exceed DOT requirements.
  • Ability to compile and maintain records and prepare various reports.

Training/Education/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Requires experience in gas operations and regulators
  • Valid Ohio driver's license
  • Must be OQ qualified
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Considerable experience and/or training in the above-mentioned examples.

Health Insurance
The City offers comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage. The medical plan is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) to help cover eligible healthcare expenses. Health insurance coverage begins on your date of hire.

Holidays
For many employee groups, the City provides 17 days (136 hours/year) of paid holiday leave. These include: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.

Life Insurance
After six months of employment, employees are eligible for $10,000 coverage under our group life insurance policy. Additional coverage up to the employee's annual salary ($40,000 maximum) may be purchased. Upon retirement this coverage will be reduced to $4,000. The premiums will be paid by the City.

Voluntary Supplemental Benefits
Life insurance (term and whole life), critical illness/cancer, accident, short / long term disability insurance

Deferred Compensation Plan
This plan allows employees to build a financial reserve for retirement by using pre-tax, payroll deducted contributions. This money is held and invested by the plan's trustees in options selected by the employee. Risk levels vary depending on the options chosen. Participation is voluntary.

Retirement Plans
The Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) and the Police and Fire Disability and Pension Fund (PFDPF) are the two plans available to City employees. Both are established by Ohio law and participation is required. Both the employee and the City of Hamilton contribute a percentage (pre-tax) into the system. Members do not pay into the Federal Social Security System. Employees and the City also contribute to Medicare.
