Position Function
Under direct supervision of the Librarian or general supervision of a Circulation Supervisor, performs assigned duties to support routine clerical and customer service-related activities. Duties may include but are not limited to answering questions and telephones, assisting patrons, organizing materials, and performing other related clerical and administrative tasks.
Essential Duties
- Assists Library Staff through efficiently and effectively administering processes and procedures related to the loaning and collecting of library materials. Duties include but are not limited to sorting and re-shelving Library books, periodicals, DVDs, and other related materials.
- Assists Library Staff by providing exceptional customer service through registering new patrons, Library card issuance, answering general questions (e.g. via telephone or in-person), and locating Library materials and related resources for Library patrons.
- Performs general clerical duties, such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, conducting research, filing, typing, photocopying, and room set-up and tear-down. Responsible for greeting patrons and ensuring their safety and the general cleanliness and orderliness of assigned areas.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Knowledge and experience normally obtained through the completion of a High School Diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.
- Customer service is an integral part of the daily job.
- Must be able to communicate clearly.
- Ability to learn and implement Library processes and procedures for the collection, storing, retrieving, and maintaining of all Library related materials.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and other work-related computer software and hardware, general office equipment, some multi-media devices, and audio/visual equipment.
- Must exhibit attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be able to present oneself professionally, and have the ability to successfully work with people of all age groups and backgrounds.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical equations to count and keep records of related monetary transactions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City employees and officials, and the general public.
- Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and the pressure of a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to work during weekends and nighttime events and hours of operation.
- Must possess a Valid Florida Class E driver's license.
- Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks.
This position may be required one to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
