The Water Treatment Plant Operator I position involves performing a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant. Work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the division Superintendent or supervisors, including more senior treatment operators. Operators are responsible for making decisions affecting plant processes in accordance with recommended Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and general guidelines to assure plant operation meets all Federal and State quality standards. This position will provide direction for subordinate operators and other assigned personnel.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
License & Certification: Must receive a passing score (70%) on pre-employment examination; Must acquire a MDE Sample Certification within 6-months of date of hire, MDE Water Operator in Training T4 Certification (OIY-T4) within 2-months of date of hire, and a MDE Water Operator T4 Certification within 3-years from the date of OIT-T4 certification. Must have a valid vehicle operator’s license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with City policy.
Essential Functions: Examples of duties but are not limited to: Operates treatment plants, treatment processes, and related equipment and facilities in accordance with established SOPs to meet all Federal and State quality standards; makes periodic inspections of all plant facilities to assure proper operating performance and for conditions which affect the security and continual operation; makes process changes as required and authorized to assure proper operation or results, including shut down, start-up, and/or adjustment to all aspects of treatment operations; Will perform related duties as assigned.
