The Wastewater Treatment Operator position involves performing a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants. Work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the Division Superintendent or supervisors, including more senior treatment operators. Operators are responsible for making decisions affecting plant processes in accordance with recommended Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and general guidelines to assure plant operation meets all Federal and State quality standards. Also, provides direction for subordinate operators and other assigned personnel.
This position will work in a 24-hour operation plant with varying schedules. Possible schedules include: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m., and 12:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.
Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma. Must receive passing score (70%) on pre-employment examination.
License & Certification: Must have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record in accordance with City policy. Required to obtain MDE Operator-in-Training W5A Certification within two (2) months of hire. Must receive passing score and obtain MDE certification for Wastewater Operators (W5A) within three (3) years of hire.
Essential Functions: Examples of duties may include but are not limited to: making periodic inspections of all plant facilities to ensure proper operating performance and for conditions which affect the security and continual operation. Assists in performance of equipment and facilities maintenance, including calibration of assigned equipment. Also, hourly rounds of the Wastewater Plant will be required. Will perform related duties as assigned.
