Hourly Salary: $15.09

This position is a temporary/seasonal position to work the City of Gulfport's Harbor Lights Winter Festival. The official season runs November 27th - January 2nd with a mandatory orientation on November 1st.

Position Overview:

The Seasonal Grounds Crew positions are responsible for picking up trash, emptying trash cans, cleaning restrooms, cleaning tables and benches, and cleaning food or drink spills before, during, and after hours of operation. This position is expected to be enthusiastic, professional, and friendly all while having a positive attitude towards guests and team members. This position will may be exposed to cold and rainy weather and is seasonal which requires working flexible hours: weekdays, weekends, and holidays. This position is classified with a non-essential personnel classification for Emergency Response purposes. This means that, during an emergency, the position is not considered immediately necessary for emergency response or critical continuity operations.


Essential Job Functions:

Essential job duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following:

  • Maintain a positive, enthusiastic, and professional attitude towards guest and team members at all times.
  • Provide assistance to the Event Technicians and Manager as requested.
  • Consistently treat all guests and team members with respect and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Ability to read, write and/or follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to learn the use of hand and power tools incidental to assigned tasks.
  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and at times under unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Ability to work with cleaning and janitorial equipment.
  • Lifting large trash bags from cans and transporting to a dumpster.
  • Walking the event grounds and picking up trash as needed.
  • Clean portable restrooms and ensure they are stocked for use.
  • Maintain assigned areas in a clean manner as directed.
  • Adhere to all City policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned by your direct supervisor, manager, director or mayor.

Must possess the required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Capable of working and contributing to a positive team environment
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends


Education and Experience

The completion of a High School degree or an equivalent, such as the General Education Development (GED).


Licenses of Certifications

Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver’s License.


Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 40 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors.
