The City of Grove City is currently seeking caring, compassionate and motivated individuals to staff our P.A.R.K. (Programmed Afterschool Recreation for Kids) program.
The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department (GCPRD) has an extended history of providing recreation-based childcare for South-Western City School District students. P.A.R.K. (Programmed Afterschool Recreation for Kids) offers a safe, affordable place for elementary school-aged students to stay mentally, socially, and physically active in the school they attend. The reason the P.A.R.K. program has been successful for over 30 years is because of the P.A.R.K. leaders who make a difference in the lives of our P.A.R.K. children and families.
Details:
- Typical work hours: 2:15 pm to 6:15 pm, Monday-Friday when South-Western City Schools are in session
- Program locations: Buckeye Woods, J.C. Sommer, Highland Park, Monterey, and Richard Avenue Elementary Schools.
- Maximum hours scheduled per week: 28
- Starting salary: $18.56 per hour
The P.A.R.K. Site Manager under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the supervising, coaching, and training P.A.R.K. leaders in the development, organization, and execution of a well-balanced, diversified program of activities during P.A.R.K.
The P.A.R.K. Site Manager shall be chosen solely on the basis of their qualifications, and as shown by the adequacy of their successful experience and training.
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age and has a high school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years' experience working with children.
- Must maintain reliable and punctual attendance.
- Has proven ability in oral and written communications.
- Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general.
- Has the ability to follow direction, provide necessary services and enforce stated rules and regulations.
- Has the ability to plan and provide appropriate school age activities and have a basic understanding of child development and group management.
- Can remain physically active (stand, walk, crouch, kneel, bend, play games) with children for three or more hours in varying weather conditions.
- College degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Education, Recreation, or another related field preferred.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
- The City of Grove City is a Drug Free Workplace. All candidates who receive an offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for commonly used drugs, including marijuana.
The P.A.R.K. Site Manager shall have the following duties under the appropriate immediate supervisor:
- Represent the City of Grove City, Parks and Recreation Dept and P.A.R.K. program in a positive and professional manner.
- Supervise, coach, and train P.A.R.K. leaders and model leadership in all aspects of the job.
- Demonstrate regular attendance.
- Plan, participate in, and maintain constant supervision of all activities, including daily games, community building, snacks, outdoor recess, indoor free time, open gym, and other programming for children while positioning themselves for optimal interactions and supervising of children.
- Responsible for all daily operations, reports, and records for the assigned site along with turning in weekly paperwork including weekly report forms, injury reports, and attendance rosters to the P.A.R.K. Coordinator/Supervisor every week.
- Supervise a team of up to 5 (five) P.A.R.K. leaders to create a positive environment where children can learn about themselves, interact with peers, and experience success.
- Possess good communication skills, patience, and a positive attitude.
- Ensure positive family communication by developing a family communication area at the site along with greeting and engaging each child and family professionally.
- Monitor the drop-off and pick-up of children following set policies and procedures.
- Use positive behavior management including clear and consistent expectations for behavior, positive feedback, and redirection.
- Actively engage with children individually while maintaining control of the entire group.
- Plan and lead site meetings twice a month. Attend monthly site manager meetings and participate in training including CPR, First Aid, AED, communicable disease, and child abuse recognition.
- Follow policies and procedures of the City, Department and P.A.R.K program as outlined in the staff and parent handbook.
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship between P.A.R.K. staff and school personnel, including principal, secretaries, custodians, and teachers by weekly check-ins, and making the school aware of any special events, speakers, or activities.
- Obey and promptly execute the orders of the administrative assistant.
- Responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the agreed upon shared space/materials.
- Develop a monthly newsletter and calendar of events with the staff’s help.
- Submit a monthly requisition for supplies needed in a timely matter.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; routinely required to stand, walk, stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light work.
