Job Summary:
Under supervision of Recreation Supervisors and Coordinators, the Recreation Aide supports a variety of recreation programs, facilities, and customer service functions. Assignments may include:
- Front Desk & Playroom Attendant – customer service, memberships/registrations, and childcare.
- Gymnasium & Fitness Floor Attendant – monitoring safe facility use and equipment upkeep.
- General Recreation Support – assisting programs, events, and facility operations.
Recreation Aides ensure safe, welcoming environments, deliver excellent customer service, and support the City’s recreation and community engagement goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Education: High school diploma or current enrollment in high school or equivalent program.
2. Experience: Previous experience in recreation, customer service, or youth programs preferred but not required.
3. Licenses/Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Essential Job Functions:
- Depending on assignment, Recreation Aides may perform the following functions:
- Greet and assist patrons; provide accurate information about programs and amenities.
- Process memberships, registrations, and payments using recreation software.
- Supervise program areas, gymnasiums, and playrooms to maintain a safe and positive environment.
- Monitor children in playroom settings; engage in age-appropriate activities and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Enforce facility and program rules in a calm, respectful manner.
- Assist with setup and takedown of equipment for games, events, meetings, and fitness activities.
- Clean and sanitize facilities, equipment, and play materials to uphold health and safety standards.
- Support special events, tournaments, citywide initiatives, and seasonal programs.
- Maintain accurate records, check-ins, attendance, and incident reports. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: Work is performed in recreation facilities, gyms, offices, and outdoor settings with low to moderate noise levels. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Duties involve supervising groups, handling equipment, and interacting with patrons of all ages in both structured and unstructured environments.
