The City of Greensboro is seeking a dedicated Sr. Customer Service Representative in the Water Resources Department. This position plays a key role in assisting customers with service requests, billing inquiries, and account management while ensuring accuracy, fairness, and excellent service. Estimated Hiring Salary Range: $42,985.00 - $48,352.00   Full Salary Range: $42,985.00 - $ 58,828.00Annually

About the Role: Ready:

The Sr.Customer Service Representative initiates service requests and provides information about City services, including Water Resources billing and account activities. This role requires balancing customer service with enforcement responsibilities to maintain the integrity of the billing process.

*This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards*


Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting customers with new service requests, billing questions, and final billings.

  • Performing cycle edits, billing investigations, and adjustments.

  • Demonstrating professionalism and effective communication skills, even in hostile or high-stress situations.

  • Maintaining the NSF (non-sufficient funds) database and following up with customers who pay with bad checks or break payment agreements.

  • Making decisions to apply penalties or pull meters when accounts are in violation.

This position requires excellent judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver exceptional customer service while applying policies consistently.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED 
    • "OR" an equivalency of 3 years of education plus 5 years of directly related work experience (
    • i.e., Electric Company, Gas Company, and/or telephone company
  • 4 years of customer service experience working in a utility environment (i.e., Electric Company, Gas Company, and/or telephone company, contact center) or directly in a high-call-volume related field
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Applications


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bi-lingual  
  • Experience working with a utility billing application such as EnQuesta or related system 

Salary : $41,781 - $54,981
