Winter Sheltering Support Staff –Community Safety Department

$20/hr.
Temporary, Part-Time (Roster)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Benefits Statement:
- Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
- Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
- Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.
Work Schedule:
- Hours vary based on need.
- Overnight availability required (8:00 PM – 8:00 AM) for White Flag operations, which are activated when the feels-like temperature drops to 32°F or below for two or more hours.
The City of Greensboro’s Community Safety Department is seeking Winter Sheltering Support Staff to assist with seasonal sheltering initiatives. This role is essential to ensuring residents experiencing homelessness have a safe and supportive place to stay during extreme weather conditions.

About the Role:
As Winter Sheltering Support Staff, you will:
- Support the Doorway Project and White Flag operations in collaboration with the Community Safety Department and the Interactive Resource Center (IRC).
- Build relationships with shelter clients and provide compassionate assistance.
- Support limited case management activities as appropriate.
- Work overnight shifts to ensure safe and effective shelter operations.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Valid driver’s license.
Professional or educational experience in at least one of the following:
- Homeless services
- Mental health
- Social work
- Case management
- Related human services field
Preferred Qualifications:
- None required.
