Education And Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience and training at the journeyman level of one or more of the building or mechanical trades, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses Or Certifications
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force to move objects. Also requires the following physical abilities: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed inside and outside in various weather conditions with noise, fumes, gases, slippery surfaces, vibrations, odors, poor lighting, heights up to 60 feet, confined spaces, and below ground level/confined spaces.

Essential Job Functions
- Performs a variety of carpentry work, including new construction, alterations, and remodeling.
- Installs new circuits and works in breaker distribution panels.
- Builds office furnishings, shelves, hangs doors, installs hardware, and replaces or installs windows.
- Builds portable walls and hangs paneling and ceiling tiles.
- Repairs floors and roofs.
- Builds road barricades and signs.
- Constructs forms for concrete construction and repair work.
- Builds frames and repairs park benches.
- Mixes and pours concrete, finishes cement, and lays block.
- Repairs and installs fences and gates.
- Erects signs.
- Installs sprinkler systems, digs trenches, cuts and connects pipe, and installs sprinkler heads.
- Repairs or replaces water lines, sinks, toilets, traps, and other plumbing fixtures.
- Replaces faucet seats, seals, valves, and pumps.
- Operates electric saws, drills, and other carpentry-related equipment.
- Uses a variety of construction and maintenance hand tools and equipment.
- Cleans and maintains shop tools.
- Changes air control filters.
- Checks, repairs, and upgrades lights.
- Interprets work orders and prepares project completion records.
- Maintains and troubleshoots all City HVAC systems.
- Keeps work area clean and orderly.
- Performs minor electrical repairs and troubleshooting.
- Performs park and pool pump maintenance.
- Hangs banners and signs and assists with special events and festivals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience and training at the journeyman level of one or more of the building or mechanical trades, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses Or Certifications
- Possession of a valid Class "E" Florida Driver’s License required, Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License preferred. Compliance with vehicle use policy requirements, Section 8.15(c) in the City's Personnel Manual.
- This position is designated as a safety sensitive position.
- Knowledge of carpentry and building construction and repair methods, materials, and tools.
- Knowledge of tools and methods for repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures, lines, and sprinkler systems.
- Knowledge of concrete construction methods, materials, and equipment.
- Knowledge of safe working procedures.
- Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations.
- Ability to use a variety of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and concrete construction and repair tools and equipment.
- Ability to safely operate a variety of woodworking power equipment.
- Ability to prepare remodeling plans and working sketches.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and work orders.
- Ability to prepare project estimates and completion reports.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical work.
- Ability to perform manual labor associated with major mechanical repair work.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with the public, other employees, and the representatives of cooperating agencies.
