work of moderate difficulty in the repair and maintenance of all Public
Works and other City department equipment. The successful candidate will
possess knowledge of standard practices, equipment, tools, hazards, and
safety precautions of the trade as well as computer and technical skills
including using diagnostic equipment and engine/transmission programs.
The successful candidate will also be self-directed and possess strong
project management skills. Examples of Duties: -Performs full range of
mechanical maintenance and repair of all Public Works and other City
department equipment as assigned, including, but not limited to overhaul
work on autos, trucks, graders, tractors and other off-road equipment,
replacing and recharging batteries, tuning engines and repairing
starters, generators, tires, etc. -Operates all Public Works equipment
and electronic test equipment such as PDA\'s, hand-held test equipment,
portable computers, desktop computers, and self-test equipment.

hire. A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be
considered. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: -Considerable knowledge of
standard practices, equipment, tools, hazards and safety precautions of
the trade. Considerable knowledge of principles of gasoline and diesel
engines, and welding techniques. Considerable knowledge of hydraulic
power systems, fuel injection and chassis electrical and engine
management systems. -Knowledge of oiling, lubrication and fluid systems
on heavy and light equipment and vehicles operated by the department.
Knowledge in Preventive Maintenance Inspections and the ability to
recognize worn parts and necessary repairs. Knowledge of welding on
various metals and the preparation of metals for welding. -Skill in
reading and interpreting hydraulic schematics, electrical wiring
diagrams, service manuals and other reference materials; diagnosing
defective equipment; performing complete engine, transmission and
related vehicle component overhauls; including heavy duty automatic and
manual transmissions. -Ability to install, repair and maintain
specialized parts, including necessary component overhauls and field
repairs. Ability to operate equipment for maintenance and
trouble-shooting activities. Ability to operate all Public Works
equipment and electronic test equipment. Ability to proficiently utilize
a computer and the required software. Ability to follow oral and written
instructions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in
writing Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with staff and the public. Ability to work the required
