Job Summary
Provides advanced administrative support for the Professional Standards Unit of the Police Department in the development of departmental policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and the development of accreditation standards for the Department. Performs administrative and office duties related to departmental policies and business operations of the Police Department. This position requires an acumen for analytical thinking, professional planning and strategic decision making and critical thought.
Essential Functions
1. Conducts research and statistical studies to determine the standards needed for police department policies, procedures, and professional standards.
2. Makes recommendations regarding policies, procedures and professional standards to identify areas for improvement and/or modification.
3. Plans, organizes and/or directs the activities involved in the distribution of department general orders and procedure documents.
4. Resolves procedural and operational problems by applying problem solving techniques to draft policies and procedures.
5. Develops departmental, divisional, sectional and unit policies and procedures.
6. Comprehends and makes inferences from written material such as reports, manuals, surveys and articles to develop or review policies and procedures.
7. Evaluates Police Department programs to statistically review their effectiveness. Provides long-term strategic planning recommendations for agency growth, estimating impact on the budget and departmental operations.
8. Finalizes documents, produces graphical portrayals of statistical data and prepares forecast proposals and information reports for a wide variety of audiences.
9. Participates in departmental projects to include law enforcement surveys, programs and plans.
10. Completes special projects as assigned.
11. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of general office policies and procedures.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Requires two years of college from an accredited college or university plus two years of administrative experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Considerable knowledge of establishing policies and procedures that have a direct impact on the Department and the community and are in alignment with accreditation and best practices required.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a full background investigation and polygraph test and must never have been convicted, put on court-ordered community supervision, or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order.
Due to Criminal Justice Information Security (CJIS) requirements, the candidate must never have been convicted, put on court-ordered community supervision, or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order. Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Deferred Adjudication, or Felony Conviction are permanent disqualifiers.
