The City of Grants Pass is excited to announce an opening for a Mechanic — a key member of our Public Works Fleet Division who helps keep our City’s vehicles and equipment running safely, reliably, and efficiently.
What You’ll Do:
You’ll take on a wide variety of mechanical challenges, including
• Vehicle inspections, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of light- to medium-duty automobiles, trucks, public safety vehicles, and off-road power equipment.
• Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, tune-ups, and repairs using specialized testing and maintenance equipment.
• Providing excellent internal customer service and maintaining accurate service records.
• Responding to emergency field repair needs when required — because sometimes the job calls for quick thinking and expertise on the go.
What You’ll Need:
• Your own journeyman-level hand tools, including standard metric wrenches and sockets.
• The City supplies specialized diagnostic and manufacturer-specific tools, so you’ll always have the right tech for the job.
Work Schedule:
• Monday through Friday
• 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

A High School Diploma or GED and five years of automotive and/or medium and heavy truck mechanic experience are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description.
Licensing Requirements (positions in this class require):
- Valid driver's license, Oregon Class C with an acceptable driving record
- Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification (IMACA, MVAC or equivalent)
- Oregon Driver’s License – Class B with airbrake endorsement
- ASE Master Automotive Technician and/or Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician
- EVT Fire Apparatus Technician Level 1 Certificate
- EVT Law Enforcement Vehicle Technician Certification
