Essential Functions
Abilities: Perform semi-skilled activities supporting the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic systems; Read and understand technical drawings, plans and diagrams; Operate various tools, instruments and equipment used in the repair of electrical equipment; Participate in safe work practices; Maintain a variety of records and prepare clear and concise reports; Learn to troubleshoot electrical circuits; Learn to analyze problems and develop effective solutions; Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Experience
Two years of electrical experience as an apprentice electrician or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Training
Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the electrical field.
Or certification from an apprenticeship training program approved by the North Dakota State Electrical Board.
Credentials
Registration as an Apprentice Electrician by the North Dakota State Electrical Board.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid International Municipal Signal Association Traffic Signal Field Technician Level I certification.
Possession of a valid driver's license.

What You’ll Do
- Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical systems, controls, motors, lighting, and related equipment
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and diagnostics
- Respond to electrical emergencies and service calls as needed
- Assist with upgrades, remodels, and infrastructure improvement projects
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and City policies
- Work collaboratively with other City departments and external contractors
- Knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control equipment
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical components
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Essential Functions
- Under supervision of a journey-level Electrician, perform diagnostics, repair, maintenance and installation of electrical and electronic systems, including and traffic signal equipment electrical wiring, poles and light fixtures; locate buried wires and appurtenances.
- Under supervision of an Electrician, perform diagnostics, repair, replacement and installation of motor control, telemetry, cable, radio and metering control systems and siren, fire and sewer lift station alarms.
- Maintain a variety of records and files on operations and activities; maintain equipment and material inventory.
- Perform basic electrical maintenance tasks on City buildings and facilities.
- Assist and participate in programming microprocessors and solid-state processors; install and maintain computer wiring and systems.
- Respond to emergency calls on twenty-four hour rotating on-call shift.
- Operate and maintain assigned electrical equipment including multimeters oscilloscopes, signal generators, data acquisition equipment and calibration devices.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Knowledge: Basic practices and procedures used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic systems; Operational characteristics of tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic systems; Electrical testing equipment procedures; Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions. Technical and operating methods, tools and equipment used in testing, repairing, constructing, and maintaining electrical and electronic equipment; Methods and techniques used in the installation and repair of electronic monitoring and signal systems.
