- Monitors inventory of street signs, parts and equipment, collecting characteristics of inventory, bar-coding signs and equipment, using scanner to find signs in database, using mapping software, entering work orders into the system, creating reports and downloading records. Installs and maintains all City owned street signs. Marks and submits bluestake requests to appropriate agencies for new sign installations.
- Inspects and maintains database on all longlane and shortlane striping within the City. Logs areas based on reflectivity and striping conditions, prioritizing maintenance schedules. Replaces shortline striping by utilizing a short line striping machine. Replaces longlane striping by utilizing a long line striping vehicle. Replaces raised pavement markings (RPMs) as needed.
- Maintains the City retroreflectivity program in accordance to federally mandated guidelines. Performs scheduled retroreflectivity tests on all City owned signs using a specialized retroreflectometer. Updates the asset management software with new information and maintains historical data within the system.
- Assists in maintaining roadways by operating a street sweeper to clean spills, filling potholes, performing right of way weed control, and assisting the pavement maintenance crew in asphalt placement activities as needed. Performs Streets standby responsibilities on a rotational basis.
- Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
- Experience: Minimum one year experience in a related field.
- Certifications and Other Requirements: Valid Arizona Driver's License, IMSA Work Zone Signs & Marking Levels I & II (must obtain within one year)
- Reading: Work requires the ability to read work orders.
- Math: Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Writing: Work requires the ability to write reports, and work orders.
- Managerial: Semi-Complex - Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.
- Policy/Decision Making: Moderate - The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. Work involving discretion is typically reviewed before finalized.
- Technical Skills: Broad Application - Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.
- Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills: Moderate - In addition to the sharing of information, interactions at this level may also include providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies/procedures. In many of the interactions, contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.
- Become proficient installing traffic signs and posts and becoming familiar with Arizona Blue Stake (811) laws within three months of employment.
- Become proficient entering traffic sign maintenance work orders into the Lucity work order and inventory system with six months of employment.
- Obtain International Municipal Signal Association Work Zone, Signing & Marking Level I & II certification within 12 months of employment.
