Electrical Inspector Specialist

The ideal candidate will be an energetic, forward-thinking professional with extensive electrical knowledge and at least seven years of experience inspecting high-end commercial and industrial occupancies. The candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of building inspections. Multiple ICC certifications in building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical disciplines are highly desirable.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Only a limited number of the most highly qualified applicants meeting the City's requirements will be invited for an interview. The examination process for this position will include a panel Interview and may include a written assessment.

• Conducts complex electrical inspections to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code and related regulations to support safe and compliant commercial, industrial, and multi family construction. 
• Coordinates and balances daily electrical inspection assignments to maintain efficient inspection operations and ensure timely service delivery.
• Interprets and enforces electrical codes for contractors, engineers, developers, and property owners to resolve compliance issues and ensure proper installation methods and construction practices.
• Engages with contractors, developers, engineers, citizens, and City staff to support project coordination, respond to electrical inquiries, and ensure successful execution of City construction initiatives.
• Performs minor electrical plan reviews to verify permit accuracy and support code compliant construction and occupancy approvals.
• Participates in delivering technical training on advanced commercial electrical systems and code interpretation to support overall division competency.
• Develops and refines electrical inspection policies to improve operational consistency and uphold National Electrical Code requirements across the division.

• Formal Education/Knowledge:  Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.   Community college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources.  Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
• Experience:  Minimum five years of experience in commercial electrical inspection or in a related field.
• Certifications and Other Requirements:  Valid driver’s license and International Code Council Electrical Inspector Certification at time of hire.
• Reading:   Work requires the ability to read code books, blue prints, spec books, memos, mail, technical reports, manuals, charts, tables, and plans.
• Math:   Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebra.
• Writing:   Work requires the ability to write memos, letters, reports, correction notices, standard operating procedures, notice to comply agendas, meeting notes, daily route and tracking sheets, and email.
• Managerial:  Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others, but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skills or tenure.
• Policy/Decision Making:  Moderate- The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies.   There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties.  More complex work as well as decisions with more significant impacts may be reviewed prior to being finalized.
• Technical Skills:  Limited Application - Work requires advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems, which affect the design and implementation of major programs, solutions for highly complex issues, and/or processes organization-wide. Independent judgment and decision-making abilities are necessary to apply technical skills effectively.
• Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills:  Moderate - Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information. The purpose of interaction is primarily the sharing of information.  

• Within 60 days of employment, demonstrate a working knowledge of the City’s Core Values and consistently incorporate them into daily workplace practices and interactions.

• Within 60 days of employment, develop a working knowledge of the City’s corporate boundaries and jurisdictional limits.

• Within 90 days of employment, following appropriate training, demonstrate proficiency in the use of Accela for inspection results, scheduling, record management, and information retrieval.

• Within 90 days of employment, develop a working knowledge of the Goodyear City Code as it pertains to the Building Safety Division, including a basic understanding of the City’s Zoning Ordinance.

• Demonstrate proficiency in conducting electrical inspections and applying applicable codes, standards, and regulations.

• Develop and maintain familiarity with active commercial, industrial, and tenant improvement (TI) projects, including the current status and phase of construction.

• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Building Safety Division policies, procedures, and operational practices.

• Maintain 100% compliance with City safety standards and safe work practices, with the goal of maintaining an accident-free work year.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key personnel across City departments to facilitate timely communication and coordination regarding issues requiring attention, including SWPPP compliance, non-operational traffic signals, illegal signage, and other related concerns.

• Demonstrate proficiency in the interpretation and application of adopted City codes and amendments, particularly as they relate to life-safety requirements and code compliance.
