Summary of Position
Position Overview
Individuals in this position support the Police department and sworn officers with daily tasks not typically performed by sworn officers. This includes non-enforcement services, animal control, community engagement, administrative tasks, ordinance violations, and traffic direction.
This position will be open until filled; priority candidate consideration is based on the following application dates:

Expected Hours of Work
This job operates primarily in Public Safety office environment. Building is staffed 24 hours/day, year-round. Scheduled hours of staff will reflect those needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to all medical emergencies and low-level calls, including noise complaints, found property, parking enforcements, etc.
- Support sworn officers with accident scenes, all medical emergencies, traffic control, traffic/radar surveys, and provide ongoing call response assistance, including administering first aid as needed.
- CSOs are dispatched to all Medical Calls: Obtain info from patients for EMTs, if needed, provide first aid, oxygen, and CPR.
- Patrol park properties, trails, facilities, and buildings, providing directions and emergency repair assistance to motorists, and conducting vacation checks of private dwellings.
- Perform animal control activities – responding to calls, trapping and relocating injured, ill, or dangerous animals, enforcing animal control ordinances, and providing maintenance and management services for the City's animal impound facility.
- Assist with traffic direction at schools, events, and other areas as requested.
- Perform routine inspections and general maintenance of patrol cars, equipment, and maintain equipment records.
- Support community and youth programs, including registration, fingerprinting, securing participant files, etc.
- Support administrative functions within the department, including preparing correspondence and making deliveries to external agencies (BCA, Hennepin County, prosecuting attorney, etc.), processing permits and licenses, and criminal background checks as requested.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- High School diploma or GED, or equivalent.
- One-year customer service experience.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office experience.
- MNJIS Basic Operator Certification (needed within 6 months of hire).
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- Obtain and maintain certifications required to complete the responsibilities of the position.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
- Ability to complete the essential duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Experience working in law enforcement, criminal justice, or public safety-related field.
- Current CPR or Red Cross certification.
- Strong computer experience, including Microsoft Office products.
- Experience and comfortability with care of animals.

Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. An employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Employee is subject to some noise, including traffic and other common outdoor city noise. Additional work hazards are present, including exposure to ill, injured, or dangerous animals, as well as exposure to bodily fluids and other potentially dangerous situations.

- Regularly read and interpret documents and other written material.

- Regularly travel around the City to meetings or events and regularly operate City vehicles.
- Regularly operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer, and telephone, as well as equipment/tools consistently found in public safety.
- Occasionally move or transport items weighing up to 50pounds.
