COMPENSATION
Pay Rate begins at $39.00/hour and can be increased based on years of experience. Regular merit increases occur.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants preferred for this position should have at least seven years of law enforcement experience with time spent in supervision or investigative assignments.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Goddard Police Department is accepting applications to fill (1) Evening Sergeant position to primarily work the hours of 7:00pm through 5:00am. Under supervision of the Chief of Police and Police Lieutenant, the Sergeant position performs the following essential functions, but is not limited to:
· Patrols the city to preserve law and order; to prevent and discover crime; and enforce laws and regulations.
· Answers calls for assistance and complaints from citizens.
· Schedules police personnel to provide adequate police staffing for shifts, special events and court duty.
· Provide the first review of cases worked by Police Officers ensuring accuracy, correctness, legality and best practices.
· Coordinate field training for new officers and retraining for current officers.
· Conducts frequent reviews of digital media obtained from in-car video and body cameras.
· Conducts preliminary investigations, locates witnesses, and makes arrests and prisoner transports.
· Conducts both moving and stationary surveillance and monitoring as required for investigations.
· Prepares operation plans for the execution of warrants; performs forcible entry into the structure under warrant if necessary and arrests defendants; searches premises for secreted persons and contraband; identifies, collects and packages contraband and evidence.
· Testifies as a witness in court.
· Prepares and maintains records, reports and case files.
· Locates, processes, identifies, collects, and preserves physical evidence.
· Attends classes, conferences, or seminars, as assigned and deemed to be in the best interests of the city and department.
· Remains educationally current on legislative or industry standardized policies and procedures upcoming and/or approved changes.
· Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees and the public using principles of good customer service including responding to questions, complaints and concerns in a prompt, professional, respectful manner.
RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT
Goddard Police Department members should live within a 30-minute drive to Goddard.
