POSITION SUMMARY

The City of Goddard is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious Part-Time Senior Center Van Driver to join our team. If you want a consistent part-time schedule, take pride in an accident-free driving record, and enjoy building warm, engaging relationships with older adults, this role is a perfect fit.

Under the direction of the Senior Center Director, you will serve as a vital, trusted link to the community, working a dedicated 21-hour weekly part-time schedule. You will provide safe, reliable, and punctual transportation for senior citizens to and from the senior center, medical appointments, grocery shopping, and community events. More than just a driver, you will offer an engaging and supportive part-time presence that our passengers look forward to seeing every week.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License with an exceptionally clean driving record (no recent major violations).
  • Strong track record of punctuality and personal reliability.
  • Defensive Driving and Passenger Assistance training certification through Kansas RTAP (Rural Transit Assistance Program), or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a natural ability to connect warmly and effectively with senior citizens.
  • High degree of discretion and respect for passenger confidentiality. [1]

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience driving passenger vehicles, vans, shuttle buses, or medical transit vehicles.
  • Existing certification(s) in defensive driving, passenger assistance, CPR/First Aid, or emergency procedures.

Physical And Work Environment

  • Ability to regularly sit for extended periods of time while driving safely.
  • Ability to occasionally exert up to 75 pounds of force to safely assist passengers or secure equipment.
  • Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching to assist passengers.
  • Clear visual acuity, vocal communication, and sharp hearing to maintain total situational awareness and ensure passenger safety.
  • Work is performed in and out of a vehicle, requiring resilience in variable weather conditions.
