Provides resources, training and support to enhance well-being and manages various programs relating to the health, safety, and fitness of the employees of the Police Department.

- Develops and maintains a culture of health and wellness in the Glendale Police Department
- Maintains referral information for mental health, physical health, substance abuse, financial issues and any other related issues for Police Department employees; provides general advice and guidance to employees seeking services.
- Provides administrative support in the management of employee wellness programs, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and peer support teams.
- Ensures program compliance with HB2502.
- Oversees the execution of processes and procedures related to significant/critical incident exposures.
- Represents the Police Department at community events, committees, work groups and city functions, regarding health and wellness.
- Develops, implements and trains the Glendale Police Department employees in a variety of topics related to employee wellness.
- Works closely with the Police Department’s Employee Assistance Unit Officer (EAU); collaborates with the City of Glendale Wellness Program Manager, Police Department Chaplains, Employee Health and Safety Officer and Labor Representatives.
- Develops and maintains statistical summaries of participant data, spreadsheets and budget reports related to the EAU Officer.
- Works with the EAU Officer and other agencies to maintain best practices and reviews new wellness programs; evaluate wellness resources and programs to ensure we provide proper care for employees and their families.
- Maintains and updates any webpage or social media account representing EAU.
- Operates a motor vehicle.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Knowledge Of:
- City policy pertaining to industrial injury, modified duty, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disability Act (ADA and sick/vacation leave
- Behavioral health, social services, and other community services and resources
- Crisis intervention techniques and care coordination responsibilities
- Departmental policies and procedures
- Record keeping practices and procedures
- Standard office practices and procedures
- Principles, practices and techniques for adult education and employee training
- Typing, word processing, data entry and office machine operation
- Computer operation and applicable software
Ability to:
- Develop curriculum and training materials for adult education and employee training.
- Establish and maintain relationships with a diverse workforce
- Establish and maintain complete and accurate record keeping and filing systems
- Operate standard office equipment, including personal computers and computer applications
- Communicate effectively in high-stress and/or sensitive situations
- Operate a motor vehicle
- Work various hours, schedules, and call outs to meet the needs of the Employee Assistance Unit.
- Understand budget principles and practices
- Facilitate various meetings, as needed
- Maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information and complete assignments with discretion
- Present a positive public image and maintain an effective working relationship with the Police Department’s Employee Assistance Unit Officer, public and other city employees
- Valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Obtain required CISM/ Peer support training in accordance with ARS 38-1111 within one year of hire.
- This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.
