Position Title: Parks Manager

Position Summary:
The Parks Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the maintenance, development, and operation of public parks, recreational facilities, green spaces, and related programs. This role oversees park staff, ensures facilities are safe and well-maintained, manages budgets, and supports community engagement through high-quality recreational environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations and maintenance of parks, trails, campgrounds, playgrounds, athletic fields, public restrooms, bathhouses, and recreational facilities
- Supervise, train, evaluate, and schedule full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff
- Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and manage maintenance schedules, landscaping projects, and facility improvements
- Coordinate with the Parks Commission, contractors, vendors, community organizations, volunteers, schools, and business owners
- Prepare and manage departmental projects, budgets, purchasing, and inventory
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and municipal policies
- Respond to public and visitor inquiries, concerns, and service requests
- Assist with planning and implementation of community events and recreational programs
- Monitor park conditions and recommend capital improvement projects
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Public Administration, Environmental Science, Horticulture, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of two years of experience in management in any field or one year of experience in parks management, grounds maintenance, or recreation operations
- Supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of park maintenance practices, landscaping, equipment operation, and campgrounds maintenance practices strongly preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently over multiple projects
- Proactive, upbeat, optimistic attitude
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
- Valid driver’s license required
Preferred Skills:
- Budget management and project planning experience
- Knowledge of safety regulations and risk management practices
- Experience with athletic field maintenance and recreational programming
- Certification in CPR/First Aid or Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is a plus
