This position assists in the maintenance, repair and cleaning of city parks, boulevards, rights-of-way, and other properties.

  • Maintains parks and boulevards, including rights-of-way, turf, decorative areas, and landscaping.
  • Performs mowing, weed control, seeding, watering, turf maintenance, snow and ice management and landscape maintenance functions.
  • Maintains and prepares sports fields and facilities for play.
  • Prunes trees and shrubs; assists with tree planting and extraction.
  • Maintains, and repairs irrigation systems; troubleshoots and identifies problems; recommends solutions.
  • Staffs city facilities during major events, such as sports tournaments and parades.
  • Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment (riding mowers, tactors, weed eaters, snow removal equipment, chemical sprayers) as well as hand and power tools; maintains and repairs tools and equipment.
  • Operates vehicles on roadways and transports hauled equipment trailers.
  • Cleans restrooms, shops, break areas, and other facilities.
  • Supervises the work of seasonal personnel as assigned; ensures effectiveness and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • May, from time to time, be required to perform these functions during weekends and/or holidays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Parks Manager and Operators assigns work in terms of detailed instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include OSHA regulations and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK


  • The work consists of related maintenance duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the work.
  • The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance of city parks. Successful performance in this position contributes to provision of safe and well-maintained parks for use by the general public.

CONTACTS
  • Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, vendors, contractors, and the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, motivate persons, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has regular supervision over assigned personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to a high school diploma or GED.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession and ability to maintain a Class C Driver’s License issued by the State of Wyoming.
