The City of Gardner is seeking an experienced City Auditor to lead and manage the City’s accounting and financial operations. This position oversees municipal financial systems, ensures compliance with state and local laws, supervises departmental staff, and provides financial guidance to the Mayor and City Council.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing the Auditor’s Office and supervising staff
- Overseeing municipal accounting systems, internal controls, and financial reporting
- Coordinating the annual budget process and monitoring expenditures
- Reviewing and approving financial transactions
- Supporting the annual audit and preparing required financial statements
- Providing financial analysis and recommendations to City leadership
- Maintaining financial software systems and ensuring data integrity
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Five years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience; municipal experience preferred
- Prior supervisory experience required
- CGMA, CPA or CGA preferred
- Experience with MUNIS or similar financial software
