The City of Gardner has a part time opening for an assistant custodian at the Levi Heywood Memorial Library.
Under the direct supervision of the Library Custodian, the Assistant Custodian performs tasks such as cleaning, repairs, and hands-on general building, maintenance, and technical tasks.
Part Time/Non-Benefited Position
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs tasks such as sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, stripping floors and vacuuming carpets; dusts and washes walls; removes trash and recycling; washes windows, woodwork, and furniture and performs other cleaning tasks to keep offices, restrooms, corridors, entryways and all other areas of the library building clean and orderly.
- Performs some electrical work not requiring a licensed electrician, such as replacing cords, fuses and light fixtures.
- Maintaining the grounds including weeding flowers beds, trimming shrubs, collecting liter, and snow and ice removal.
- Assists/directs set-up and take-down of equipment and furniture for programs and events as needed.
- Monitors all facility heating, cooling, fire suppression, elevator, electrical plumbing, and security systems in the absence of the library custodian.
- Shall perform additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as directed by the Library Custodian and the Library Director and Assistant Director.
Requirements:
- Ability to use computer software to monitor, control and schedule building HVAC and lighting systems.
- Ability to meet physical demands of job including heavy lifting and moving, exposure to elements, repetitive motions including bending, stretching, and lifting.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to learn computer software for building systems management
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, and heating services.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.00 per hour
