Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) currently has an opening for a qualified Water/Wastewater GIS Specialists 1 (GIS/OS Specialist 1) to support and implement programs related to water and wastewater. This position also requires diversified experience in construction site utility work inspection and administration activities for linear infrastructure (wastewater collections and water distribution systems) projects including but not limited to traditional open cut, trenchless, and sewer & water rehabilitation. Administrative responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to GIS editing and coordination with asset management Cityworks operational platform along with PACP, LACP, and MACP oversight report quality assurance. This position will require periodic field data gathering and inspection of project work.

Summary Of Work
Professional and technical work applying geographic information systems (GIS), computer aided design and drafting (CADD), asset management, or engineering technology to specific disciplinary areas relating to automated mapping and facilities management (AM/FM) systems, production of engineering graphics or plans, or asset management systems.
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor in a specific disciplinary area and work under general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from lower classes by its emphasis on geomatics and utility mapping applications.
Note: It should be understood that the job competencies, duties, and requirements of the GIS and Operation Systems Technician are inherently included in this position.
EXAMPLES OF WORK**
Designs and produces thematic and reference maps requested using GIS techniques and equipment.
Utilizes GIS to support infrastructure planning, modeling, mapping, and statistical operational and administrative functions.
Performs basic system planning functions (availability requests, area maps, system issues) in order to respond to customer requests.
Performs quality assurance / control and updates of land base features (i.e. address points, street centerlines, edge of pavement, edge of sidewalk or concrete, parcels, buildings, land development etc.).
Applies and advances knowledge of engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and GIS or CAD design in support of disciplinary area.
Assists with engineering analysis necessary to determine system performance needs.
Resolves field and construction related problems (e.g. when field conditions do not align with construction plans) by coordinating with internal employees to revise construction plans and designs in order to ensure timely project completion.
Captures and organizes asset data for inclusion into the work maintenance management system and/or asset registry such as ensuring all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are uploaded or linked to the work maintenance management system.
Organizes, integrates, and assists with the implementation and work of the operational area strategic asset management plan / program including the decommission process of assets.
Implements and monitors work plans, processes, and procedures to achieve work group objectives and performance measures.
Establishes and maintains professional networks and attends training sessions and conferences as necessary to advance skills and keep abreast of issues and practices in all areas of responsibility.
Collects data from various sources for asset condition assessment including work orders, maintenance, and operations reports and graphs, maps, and as built and construction drawings; generates reports from the asset management database; participates in the development of procedures to collect and maintain asset data.
Will be required to respond under emergency conditions.
Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.

Education And Experience
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Engineering, Geoscience, Geomatics, Surveying and Mapping, Geography, Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), Mathematics, or related field.
One (1) year experience with GIS, CAD, asset management, or engineering technology; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, ability, and skills.

Licenses
Valid Florida Driver License within 30 days of appointment.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of surveying and engineering mathematics and their applications to surveying and engineering computations.

Knowledge of the specific disciplinary area.
Skilled in using Esri GIS software, AutoDesk CAD software, calculator capable of coordinate geometry (COGO) computations, and the Microsoft Office suite.

Ability to produce professional quality finished planimetric utility maps.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
